The Guarapuvu Association was founded in 2016 in Garopaba, Brazil. Most of its members are teachers who teach sports, arts and the environment.
The association works with children and teenagers, offering free projects such as:
- Hand beach: children and teenagers are trained once a week in handball and basketball. They participate in integration games with teams from other towns and States and have even participated in events in Argentina and Denmark. The association also promotes championships in the town´s arena, incentivizing sport in the region.
- Patrimonial education: children study about the local history and cultural landmarks and then produce theater plays about what they have learned.
- Environmental education: the association is responsible for caring and maintaining Siriu park, using the area for field trips where children learn about the environment.

MISSION: promote cultural and social development to the town of Garopaba through sustainability.
VALUES: Cooperatives, ethics, sustainability, communicability and diversity.
Maria Eduarda: after training in the program and participating in championships with the association, she received many invitations to play professionally, including the Brazilian Handball National Team.
Their goals for 2021 are to receive the “public utility” title and to restart the sports training as soon as the pandemic is over.
All of the workers in the association are volunteers, they don´t get paid for their work. All of the resources come from donations: students parents, a couple of local businesses, fundraising activities done by the students, and your purchases from Ape Sportswear.
Financial donations are crucial for the Project since they are needed to provide: uniforms, balls, sports equipment, etc
The arena used for practices is borrowed from the city hall.
These projects have a huge impact on the children. The kids cannot afford extracurricular activities. So when they are not in school, they get to be involved in projects that not only teach them sports but also about discipline, team work, effort, retribution, and also that they can hope for a better future.
